HELP ME CHOOSE NEW BOOK COVERS

All of my published dark, fatnasy, short stories have covers that I designed.  Yeah, I know.  Big no-no if you don’t understnd graphic desigining.  At the time, I was proud of myself for actually making htem.  Now I know better.  Creativia normally gives our books new covers, but at the time, I told them I would redo them.  So, now is the time.  Several years later.  HAHA!.  Below are the templates of what I’m looking at.  Let me know which ones catch your eyes and makes you want to maybe read the darn books.

NIGHTMARE STORM

This story was originally titled Bear of a Storm, but I just couldn’t figure out a way to get Teddy Bears on the covers.  Not in my pay grade.  Plus, I didn’t think it was catchy enough.  So, I changed it.  It’s the story of a man who doesn’t know whether he’s dreaming or actually seeing the events that unfold.  That’s why I used a male figure on the cover.  But, it also effects his girlfriend.  Firs one is obviously mine, then we have A, B, or C.

KEEPER OF THE UNICONRS

This one was originally titled Chip off the Old Block.  But when I checked on Amazon to see how many other books were called that, there were a ton.  Authors really need to check first on Amazon to see how original their titles really are.  You don’t want your book getting lost among the other titles.  This is a kinda lighthearted tale about what happened to the Unicorns told by the Keeper of the Unicorns.  First my cover, then A, B, C, D, or E.

IN MEMORY OF MICHELLE

This is the original title.  It’s such an oddball story I couldn’t figure out what else to name it.  It’s a great story, but so different.  It takes place along the Missouri River back in 1918, told in first person by an unnamed man.  He’s camping along the river when some strange creatures emerge out of the water.  He names the female, Michelle.  First my cover, then A, B, or C.

THE BIRTHDAY CARD

All the other short stories have been  Bob’s.  This one is mine.  I’ve even thought of adding to it as  I wrote it for a contest and it had to be within a certain word count.  It’s not very long and would’ve been better as free.  It’s what happens to you when you open that one special birthday card each year.  First my cover, then A, B, or C.

Sahara, I like your cover choice for the first one.
I like C for Keeper of the Unicorn.
I like your cover for In Memory of Michelle and The Birthday Card.

  5. Adrienne Jordan says:

Your cover for the first one .
    D, C, C.

    • Sahara Foley says:

      Hi Adrienne,

C & D for the Unicorn are going to be hard to choose from. I like elements of both. C for Michelle is probably the one I’m going to buy. As for the B-day card, I like A & C. Hmm. Decisions. Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  6. Jackie Phipps says:

    Nightmare Storm B
    Keeper of the Unicorns B
    In Memory of Michelle C
    The Birthday Card C

Hello Sahara above are my picks.
    Thanks Jackie

    • Sahara Foley says:

      Hi Jackie,

I had some people on FB that liked C & B for Nightmare Storm, but more people chose A, and I loved A. It’s more subtle.

The Unicorn one, there’s just something strange with her eyes staring off into space. The same designer also had the same person on a different book cover, but with a different background. Probably why I don’t like it as much. It wouldn’t be a duplicate cover, but too close for me.

I like your selections for the last 2 books.

      Thanks for commenting.

  7. Jan says:

Except for the ‘nightmare’ — none of which I like, and none of which would make me want to pick up the book, I agree with your original choice on all of them. (B for In Memory of Michelle as second choice. )

    • Sahara Foley says:

      Hi Jan,

Yes, that is the whole point, isn’t it. Trying to get a readers attention. Each cover has it’s merits but also disadvantages. I don’t like the fonts on some, but can always change them. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment. 🙂

  8. Elda Brooks says:

I like your pics on all except Keeper of Unicorns I pic D. Yours reminds me too much of that scene in Harry Potter.

    • Sahara Foley says:

      Hi Elda,

Hmm, I guess I don’t remember that scene from Harry Potter and a Unicorn, other than the one that was killed by The One We Must Not Name. Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  9. Dawn says:

    My thoughts:
    Nightmare Storm: B
    Keeper of the Unicorns: B
    In Memory of Michelle: C
    The Birthday Card: C

    • Sahara Foley says:

      Hi Dawn,

Several people picked B for Nightmare Storm, but I was also told that A was more in line with my subtle writing style. Keeper of the Unicorn has been a toss up. B, D & E have been chosen the most. I also like your picks for the last two. Thanks for commenting. 🙂

  10. Zeece says:

Sahara, I also like B for Nightmare. For Keeper I like D.
    In Memory, A. Birthday Card-C.
