Q&A with #Creativia author Lorelei Bell

Lorelei Bell

Today, I have fellow Creativia author Lorelei Bell and the 5th book in her Sabrina Strong series.  It’s on pre-order and due to be released on 04-03-2016.  You can order your copy today by clicking on the book cover.

I love your book covers, btw.  Creativia does such an awesome jobs with their covers.  So, what is the story about?

It would be hard to catch you all up on Sabrina Strong, who is a touch clairvoyant, but she discovers soon into the first part of the second book that she is definitely the long awaited “sibyl”. This is a “closed world” (meaning not everyone knows about vampires, werewolves and so forth exist), and yet Tremayne Towers is owned by the most powerful vampire in the US, and Sabrina works for him.

Here is description of Crescendo:

The good news is the dhampire will be born, but not through who you’d expect. When Vasyl learns what Sabrina has done, it creates a rift between them.

After donating her plasma in order to save Tremayne, and surviving Nicolas’ attempt on her life, a group of black witches abduct her and begin draining her of her powers. She’s near death when Dante stops them, and he and Vasyl return her home. Dante has a way to return her powers, but in a way that Vasyl isn’t pleased with.

After introducing Vasyl to her brother, wife and children, she warns him about vampires who will try and hurt them. But these warnings go unheeded when they get an invitation for what they think is an all expenses paid weekend in Tremayne Towers. With the vampire war raging all around them, the ultimate confrontation with Ilona Tremayne is at hand.

Who is the main character?

Sabrina Strong. First person most of the series, but I’ve digressed where needed (Caprice needed several POV characters to tell the tale).

What inspired this tale?

The first 4.  I get close to the end of one, and know what I’m going to do for the next one. Strange how that works.

How did the story come to you?

I wanted to write a vampire story (I call it a suburban fantasy, but my publisher went with paranormal romance. I’ll say one thing, it’s not a cookie cutter vampire romance.

After writing the first book, Ascension, Sabrina and all the other characters lived in my head. They won’t shut up until I put them down on paper or in my documents.

Did you have to research for this novel and if so, why?

Each book may need some sort of research. It depends upon whether or not I take Sabrina to another area, or, maybe another world which I’ve created, such as in Nocturne, the 3rd book, where I plunged her into a vampire-run world where they were stuck in the Victorian age, with the dress and such, so, I had to research what they wore back then. Plus, I had to put Dracula (Drakulya-the historical prince) into this one, and had to research him, and figure out how to turn him into a vampire.

In this one (Crescendo), I had to research plasma donations. I knew some people who had donated, and one gave me pictures of the machine, and the other told me how it felt, what she saw, even what she tasted—something like pennies, she said.

Also, I may have had to do some research on witchcraft, as well. Some of these books I have on hand, and it’s easy enough.

If you did research, what do you think surprised you most to learn and why?

Things about the plasma, what the person experiences.

Do you relate to your character?

Sabrina is like me, in many ways. But she’s also a little more adventurous. Plus she has powers to do things I could only dream of. That, and dating vampires and such.

Is your protagonist anything like you personally?

In many ways, but not in everything.

What made you write this character; what made them important to you or made you want to tell their story?

Sabrina, and Tremayne are both very vivid characters, as are Rick, the leprechaun; and Dante, the shape shifter; and Hobart, the werewolf… Then, new characters come to the fore, like Bill Gannon; Vasyl, the vampire who has tried to find her throughout a thousand years; and her witch neighbor, Mrs. Bench, and the list just goes on!

When will you book be available?

The ebook will be available on April 3, but it can be pre-ordered now.

Okay, let’s learn more about you, as a writer Who is Lorelei Bell?

Third daughter of a mostly German father, whose family had been in America for generations, my father had to pick the German name for me—Lorelei from the German poem about a siren whose voice caused sailors to go off course on the Rhine River, and crash into the rocks. Not the nicest thing, but there you go.

I started out as an artist. As soon as I could walk and hold a crayon, I drew on everything!

I switched to writing after taking a “creative course”, in high school. When I told my teacher that I wanted to become a published author, she told me to think again: my spelling was terrible, and my grammar horrible. Did I listen? No. I was never diagnosed, but at age of 40, I realized I was dyslexic. And knowing that I’m in great company (one of the most famous people in history being my inspiration, was Da Vinci), I have not let it hold me back.

I tried to find a publisher, in the 70’s, and 80’s. Tried to find an agent in the late 80’s and 90’s to no avail. I self-published Spell of the Black Unicorn, had a fantastic book signing at a local Borders. I finally was discovered by a small publisher, who took Vampire Ascending (now Ascension), and I had another great book signing, for that one, as well. When this publisher quit the business, I went “indie”, but didn’t like it, and finally found Creativia, my current publisher.

I have many hobbies, including crocheting, bird watching, nature watching/hiking. I live on a re-planted prairie/wetlands, which my husband is manager of. Married to the same man for 30 years, we’ve enjoyed exploring the western states, and hope to get a small trailer so that we can, once again, go camping.

What inspired you to start writing?

The class I mentioned up above.

What is your favorite book you have written and why

Every book I write, at the moment, is my favorite. What can I say?

When you are not writing, what do you do to recharge?

Yoga, walks, when it’s nice out. Crocheting is relaxing too. I also dabble in crafts of some sort. Once in a great while, I need to simply take time off from writing. I did that last year from mid-summer until end of year. I think I needed to simply enjoy life for a change, since I’d finished the 8th book of the Sabrina Strong series, and had been going for several years in high gear.

Are you an Indie Author or are you part of a publishing house?

I have a publisher, Creativia.

Do you read books within the genres you write?

I do, but now I’m concentrating on mysteries, and other authors who interest me, like John Grisham.

Besides being an author, do you have a second job?.

In order to pay bills? I do.

What do you enjoy most about being an author?.

Being able to give my creative force some place to live.
