Big foot: Urban Fantasy or Reality
I have always been fascinated by the legends of Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster. Could creatures such as these exist without being discovered by modern man. With Nessie, I say yes. There are vast, deep areas of the ocean yet unexplored and the loch that Nessie has been spotted, has deep unwater channels that I’ve read led to the ocean. So, who knows?
But, what about Big Foot, Sasquatch, Yeti, or the Abominable Snowman? As mankind encroaches on their domains, why haven’t they been unveiled yet? Are they invisible to the human eye? Maybe they live in a different dimension?
Both are interesting possibilities and written about in J.M. Northup’s Big Foot Urban Fantasy Series. Check them out for yourself.
The Snoqualmie Valley Sasquatch Series written by J.M. Northup
Book One: Revived
I’m ready. I know I am, but… should I? Should I really be doing this? It was the question he worried the most about, feared even. My visions show things working out, but that doesn’t mean much. I know from experience that I can’t trust the reliability of my premonitions.
And, it was true; knowing the supposed future didn’t offer any guarantees. If anything, it complicated things. Decisions could alter the outcome, changing how a premonition was ‘seen’ compared to how it realistically unfolded. That didn’t mean the vision would be prevented, just modified. Sometimes, even with good intentions, a person could make a situation worse by trying to tamper with it. This was a flaw in his foresight; a flaw which Adam understood all too well.
“Have faith,” he whispered encouragement to himself. “Trust in the Creator.”
Adam delayed only a second longer before he traversed into the uncertain future, crossing the hidden divide; the fabric separating worlds. He moved from the shadows that paralleled the town, where unseen lives existed alongside unsuspecting, oblivious people. With his seemingly mundane act of taking one step forward, he effectively walked from myth to reality.
AMAZON REVIEW:
Bigfoot (also known as Sasquatch) is the name given to the mythological hominoid creature said to inhabit the forests of the Pacific Northwest. Hoax or reality, it is the source of many tales and legends (and now a TV show!). In REVIVED, author J.M. Northup cleverly taps into the myth in this brilliantly written YA tale of love and the supernatural.
The author begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. What she achieves is quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. Adam, a once-imaginary-friend, appears in real life to Hannah and Jenna, two cousins who reside in the Snoqualmie Valley of Washington State. With him come some surprising revelations from the past. Also, the attraction between Adam and Jenna becomes the kind of forbidden romance that dreams are made of. The two lovers become supremely star-struck. And what’s the connection between Adam, the deaths of Jenna’s parents, and the mystical Sasquatch? It’s for the lucky reader to find out.
This is an exquisite adventure fantasy that will surely find you lost within the first few pages of chapter one. I think both teens and young adults will love this book. It’s a perfect start to a series as it introduces characters that are alive and believable, and it engulfs the reader in the kind of suspense and anticipation that make books the treasure they are.
Book Two: Unveiled
Realizing she was standing alone in an empty forest, Hannah had a moment of panic. “Oh, shit!” Looking around anxiously, she shouted, “Was I supposed to hold onto your hand? Because I didn’t.”
Before an answer could be given, she felt a vibration wash over her. The sensation grew and seemed to draw her into an unseen electrical field. The static charge made the hair on her body raise slightly. Oh, God!
The energy of the veil made her skin tingle and buzz. Wow! This is amazing, she thought, feeling exhilarated. Then, the world expanded around her, and she saw things that had been hidden only moments before.
GOODREADS REVIEW:
This is the second book in an innovative series, you don’t have to read book one to know the story, but I think you will love it too. Jenna and Hannah are cousins and they have a special relationship with a group of people that are different from humans. When Jenna and one of the group, Adam become boyfriend and girlfriend, some people don’t understand the relationship. A lot of hatred and bullying happen because a few people will always be prejudiced, even against those who are special. As the King Clan is. In this book readers learn more about the background of that clan and the relationships between the groups grow. I love this author’s writing style and she brings characters to life, especially the special ones found in the King Clan.
