Featured Free eBook: Beast Unburdened (Gladiators of the Vagabond Book 1) by Robin O’Connor

Alien abduction? Terrifying gladiators? Check and check!

Abigail

Monsters are real. And so are aliens…

The beast was terrifying. Eight-foot tall, covered in green scales with horns that would make a bull jealous. When they threw me into his cell, expecting him to knock me up so they could sell his offspring, the last thing I expected was to find a gentle giant.

Okay, okay, not that gentle. He did kill a guy and tossed his corpse at my feet the moment we met. Not exactly romantic.

But he gives the best cuddles, that counts for something right?

Ziame

When the slavers threw a pretty human into my cell I knew I had to act. Everything had been building up to this moment.

To break out of this cell.
To free my brothers from a fate in the arena.
I have to step up. I have to be more than the mindless beast I’ve pretended to be.

To save the pretty female I have to be their leader.

…and maybe I can convince her to stay by my side while I do it.

Sahara’s Book Review of Rose and the Witches by Zeece Lugo

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Warning: This book contains strong sexual content, scenes of violence, and taboo topics. It is not suitable for younger readers or adult readers who object to such content.

After surviving her captivity at Savilla’s fortress, Rose has begun her year’s training at the Sisterhood, but the peace and content she has found is soon shattered by the mysterious hauntings of a stranger; one no one else can see. Soon, her world is turned upside down as family secrets she never imagined, come to light, destroying everything she thought was real in her life, and she is forced to battle the most powerful of warlocks for her very life.

Part of the Vampires in the Mist series, this is a full-length, stand-alone novel. It follows Rose and the Witches but can be read as a stand-alone novel as well.

Blood and Magic (Vampires in the Mist Book 4)    Bloodstone (Vampires in the Mist Book 5)    Roses and Thorns (Vampires in the Mist Book 6)

MY REVIEW:

Back to her new life with her hunkie vampires, Rose is shocked by revelations about her own ancestral past.  This tale is so much darker and twisted than the last one.  And, reader beware, there are triggers galore.

When I bought the serialization, I didn’t realize there was still a 6th book which wasn’t available to purchase anymore.  I debated with myself about rebuying the first 2 out of the 3 stories.  But I HAD TO KNOW what happened to Rose in that other dimensional realm her father trapped her in.  So, yeah, I guess Rose became a bit more relatable for me in this book.

Still, the rest of the characters all sounded the same.  Calling a man a male all the time is boring.   And I still don’t understand what role Gian really played.  Yeah, he’s the head vampire, but there was always the hint that someday he would have his taste of Rose.  Which never happened.  Also, the witch that set up Rose was never identified or punished.  Some unanswered questions.  Could there be another book?

If you’re a reader who doesn’t mind the darker side of erotica, and vampire lovers, you’ll enjoy this story.  I give it 4 stars.

Sahara’s Book Review: Rose and the Vampires by Zeecé Lugo

BOOK DESCRIPTION:

Warning: This novel is not suitable for younger readers or adult readers who object to strong sexual content, content depicting violence or taboo topics.

A fast-moving, suspenseful, sensual paranormal urban fantasy. Warning: Not a YA read!

Rose, a trendy but unmotivated Miami girl, is seduced by vampires at a posh party and stolen to their private island in the Caribbean. She learns that her rare and powerful blood makes her a highly prized vampire commodity. She is to join the Sisterhood, an elite, mysterious group of gifted females who are blood-bonded to and serve the vampires as companions through the ages. Faced with the daunting duality of her captors, both their terrifying savagery and their intensely erotic powers of seduction, Rose chooses to survive at any cost.

This work was first published as the first three volumes (Once Chosen, Veil of Mist, A Raven for a Crow) of the novella serial Vampires in the MistThese three novellas have been compiled into this full, stand-alone novel titled Rose and the Vampires.

Once Chosen: Vampires in the Mist, Vol 1    Veil of Mist: A Reverse Harem Novella, Vampires in the Mist, Vol 2    A Raven for a Crow (Vampires in the Mist Book 3)

MY REVIEW:

At the time I bought the 5 books in this serialization, they were the only stories I hadn’t read from Zeece.  As always, her covers were amazing but they got lost on my kindle with so many other books.  It wasn’t until I went to post my reviews that I saw she had condensed them into two full-length stories.  The brief description above gives very little away about the contents of the story.

Because of Rose’s unusual blood, and how it effects vampires, she finds herself not only learning how to defend herself against the vamp’s that kidnapped her, but others who want to use her.  Savilla is her worst enemy and Lugo’s description of him is enough to make any woman shudder in horror.  In the process of outsmarting her foes, Rose discovers a strength and guile in herself she never suspected.

I’ve read all of Lugo’s books and absolutely loved them and rated 90% of the with 5-stars.  So I was so looking forward to getting to know Rose’s story.  Sadly, I found them lacking.  Rose just didn’t have the depth of character I found in the Angel’s Guardian series or the Danial’s Fork ones.  I just didn’t find her relatable enough.  Still, they were an enjoyable read and I kept going from one book to the next waiting to see what happened to Rose next, and how she would resolve her conflicts.

This book is ideal for readers who love supernatural vampires, dark erotica scenes, and strong-willed heroines.  I give it 4-stars.

Savoring the Camino de Santiago: It’s the Pilgrimage, Not the Hike by Julie Gianelloni Connor

An award-winning debut memoir by travel expert Julie Gianelloni Connor

Published by Bayou City Press

The book is available worldwide in digital and print format

“Savoring the Camino de Santiago: It’s the Pilgrimage, Not the Hike” is an award winning book by author Julie Gianelloni Connor. The book focus on the Camino de Santiago, an ancient pilgrimage trail that began around 820 AD. A resurrection of interest in the Camino since the 1970s has meant that more than 300,000 individuals are nowadays undertaking the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela each year. The author made the pilgrimage in 2016 via the French route from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain, a journey of some 500 miles. Her book incorporates a blog and travel journal she kept during that pilgrimage.

The book is also a memoir, with Ms. Connor explaining how and why she decided to make the pilgrimage. Savoring the Camino is also a practical guide to the Camino for those interested in it. While the prevailing culture of the Camino is to walk the route, Ms. Connor believes that walking is not the only way to undertake the Camino. Taking buses, taxis, or even driving are also valid ways to experience the Camino, in her opinion. She advocates for pilgrims to slow down and savor the pilgrimage by stopping in churches, cathedrals, museums, and interesting towns and cities along the route. Not everyone experiences spiritual or personal growth through the act of walking; Ms. Connor urges pilgrims to take the trip in the manner that will most connect them with their spiritual, religious, and transcendent well springs.

After completing the pilgrimage, the author journeyed on to Madrid and Toledo, and there are chapters in the book covering those visits. Ms. Connor also recounts activities following the journey related to the Camino, such as writing an open letter to relevant governmental authorities in Spain and hosting a thank-you dinner in Houston for those who helped her plan and organize her pilgrimage.

The book also includes a useful chapter on resources as well as an index.

“Delightful hand-drawn illustrations…Connor’s message is simple. Walk your own Camino, take time to enjoy it and work so that others might do the same.” —La Concha, American Pilgrims on the Camino

“a story that is powerfully written, capturing adversity and revelation alike.” —Donovan’s Literary Services

“Those who want a satisfying blend of spiritual and travel revelations which use the Camino as a road to understanding and enlightenment on many levels will find Savoring the Camino de Santiago the perfect item of choice. It covers the emotions, reactions, and insights of a pilgrim who cultivates a slower approach to viewing the world than most travel accounts offer.” —Midwest Book Review

Fans of armchair travel or those exploring their own interesting walking the Camino de Santiago will get a lot from this down-to-earth guide and memoir.”– BookLife Review, a subsidiary of Publishers Weekly

Thunder Dog: The True Story of a Blind Man, His Guide Dog, and the Triumph of Trust at Ground Zero by [Michael Hingson, Susy Flory, Larry King]

An instant New York Times bestseller, Thunder Dog tells the true story of a blind man, his guide dog, and the life-changing power of faith and trust in the face of terror.

When one of four hijacked planes flew into the World Trade Center’s North Tower on September 11, 2001, Michael Hingson, a district sales manager for a data protection and network security systems company, was sitting down for a meeting. His guide dog, Roselle, was at his feet.

Blind from birth, Michael could hear the sounds of shattering glass, falling debris, and terrified people flooding all around him. But Roselle sat calmly beside him. In that moment, Michael chose to trust Roselle’s judgment and not to panic. They were a team.

As you relive that fateful day in September 2001 alongside Michael and Roselle, you’ll learn:

  • The ways that grief and loss can lead the way for change
  • How the rare trust between a man and his guide dog can inspire your own unshakeable faith
