Are you a gamer?

Let’s see.  The definition of a Gamer is: a person who plays video games or participates in role-playing games.

Wow!  That means I am a Gamer.  Of course, I’ve known I was a Gamer.  I LOVE playing video games and RPG games are my favorite.

Before games, though, I used to be a real book nerd.  I was the one walking down the street with my nose in a story.  In fact, when my parents had no money, my Mom entered me into a book club for the Happy Hollisters.  I really got attached to these stories as one of the children was named Pam (my real name )

When I moved out on my own, my passion for books and collecting them followed me.  I had quite a library at one time.

Then, the home computer came of age.  Oh No.  Yeah, I had one of the first Commodores that came out.  Back then, though, everything was dial-up and I was stuck with dial-up for many years.  So, most of my gaming back then was either through AOL chat rooms as card games, or Pogo.  One of the games I remember playing in tournaments through Pogo was Hog Heaven. They also had pool games, every kind of card game you can imagine.  I spent many hours online playing with other people.

Sadly, my book reading has been replaced by gaming.  I only started reading again AFTER I started publishing under Sahara Foley.  Rewriting and publishing my late husband’s stories helped me get over the shock and grief of losing him  This Xmas it will be 8 years since Bob died, and I don’t need publishing his stories to help me move on.  I already have.  Yeah, to me.

Which has led to a struggle inside me.  After my major surgery in July last year, I started reassessing my life and purpose.  I had put myself 110% behind getting Bob’s stories out in the world and stressed myself out.  Completely.  So, I took a step back.  Yeah, you know where this is leading.

Even while publishing, I got hooked on Big Fish Games.  Yep, I have an addiction.  I see that now.  LOL.

I had never played Hidden Object or Match 3 games before.  At first I really enjoyed the HO games, but after awhile, they became lame and repetitive.  Booring!  Match 3 I still play as they can be challenging.  I never do timed games and I don’t like using powerups.  I like using my brain and not letting the game solve it for me.

Which leads me to this long-winded post. Early this year I bought a gamer computer and uped my internet speed.  I bought an Xbox, found some great games there and then discovered Steam.  Oh No!  As I said before, I love RPG games.  I found some amazing ones, but in the process of playing and getting stumped by them, I would go to YouTube and watch how some levels were solved.

Now, before this, my great-nephews watched gamers on YouTube all the time and I thought how nuts.  But, I have found the appeal.  So, I bought a video capturing program, a microphone, and started recording my own game play.

I know.  Who is going to watch a 61 yo play a game?  You know what?  I don’t care.  This is how I relax and I so enjoy my games.  So there.   I had already started a YouTube channel for my audio books, and that’s where I’ll be uploading my game play.  I will still be releasing books.  In fact, I almost have a short story ready to published.  Here is my game play for the start of Avadon 2: The Corruption.  I loved the first one, Avadon: The Black Fortress and am looking forward to discovering the story in the sequel.
