NOT LUCILLE Blurb Blitz Tour – 7/14

Mike Steele will be awarding a $10 Amazon/BN gift card to a randomly drawn winner.

a Rafflecopter giveaway

NOT LUCILLE

Mike Steele

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Middle Grade Historical
BLURB:
Ten-year-old Lucy Contento can’t help but be seen and heard. And she’s always in trouble for it. She talks too much. She’s impulsive. She writes with the wrong hand. Her parents would be mad enough knowing she routinely earns afterschool detentions. They’d be furious if they found out she’s been sneaking onto the campus of the nearby Trenton Academy for the Deaf. But there, Lucy has met Florence, a lonely and profoundly deaf girl her own age. Florence doesn’t mind Lucy’s flaws. Though Florence can’t speak, she has a unique way of communicating. If Lucy can figure out how to learn Florence’s special language, the two could be friends.
Lucy devises a plan, but it’s going to cost a whopping $7.98-more money than she’s got. She can’t tell her parents why she wants the funds without revealing she’s been visiting Florence. Besides, her parents don’t have a penny to spare. Her father has been out of work for months. And nobody else in the Contento family has an income. Or do they …? Lucy soon discovers she’s not the only member of her family hiding something. Can she get the money she needs while keeping everyone’s secrets? Or will her scheming land her in the biggest trouble of her life?
In this story of friendship and belonging, a young girl navigates prejudice, punishment, and identity while establishing her voice in a world that often tries to keep her silent.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt One:

“Lucy! Lucy, Lucy! Oh, no, no, no!” Her best friend, Ann Salvatore, burst through the back of the crowd and barreled down the walkway toward her. Ann was normally thrilled to have a chance to wear her green party dress with puffed sleeves. This morning, however, she looked panicked, like she’d witnessed some horrible accident. “No, no, no, no, no!” Sweat pooled on her cheeks as she contorted her face in agony.

“What’s wrong?” Lucy suddenly feared the worst. “Don’t tell me the fifth graders got moved down to the fourth floor.”

“Worse than that. We’re in Miss Gillingham’s class.”

It wasn’t worse, but it wasn’t good news. Miss Gillingham had a reputation for being the strictest teacher at Robbins Elementary, the type to stand in the hall before and after class so she could yell at troublemakers who weren’t even on her roster. Miss Gillingham always taught sixth grade, though. Lucy hadn’t expected the teacher would be a concern for another year.

“She’s on the fifth-grade list,” Ann explained. “Classroom 5A. We’re both in it. She’s going to torture us.”

Lucy rolled her eyes, something she found herself doing often around her best friend. Ann seemed to feel emotions in extremes. She was either ecstatic or devastated, laughing or sobbing, rarely anything in between. Miss Gillingham may not have been Lucy’s top-choice teacher, but she couldn’t be that bad, not bad enough to torture students.

“She’s awful to the good kids,” Ann said. “Imagine what you’re in for.”

My Amazon Vine Review of PWireless 8 PCS Colorful Dragonfly Clips

Colorful & Fun To Put In Your Flowers

4 out of 5 Stars

I’m always looking for fun stuff to put in or around my flower pots. When I saw these, I had to give them a try.

First off, my shipment was delayed and it took over a month to get them. Though, they did give me a choice to cancel my order, but I really wanted to see what they looked like.

You do get 8 pieces and my biggest complaint is the way they are positioned on the poles. 4 of the dragonflies, once clipped to your planter, will be facing like their flying away from your flowers. 2 of them will look like they are flying into your flowers, and the last 2 are flying sideways to your flowers. So, the main picture for this product is wrong. They aren’t all facing the same way.

And, the actual dragonflies aren’t as big as they make them seem in the photos. They aren’t small, but they aren’t huge, either. They are also very vibrant in color. You will notice them in your plants.

Once I received them, I choose to kina flatten their wings to make them appear to be flying. When it’s breezy, the wings will flip up and down and it’s pretty cook, because they really look like they’re flying.

I’ve only had them in my pots for a few weeks so I’m sure how they will hold up. However, I have had a few storms come through with winds and small hail, and they are fine so far. No damage to them, so more durable then they appear.

I’ll see how they hold up by summers end.

What is similar between science and postapocalyptic survival?

Everything that can, will go wrong.”

Rain Hunter is a writer of post-apocalyptic science fiction. Having spent years as a materials researcher, Rain intricately weaves scientific precision into the stories. “I’ve had a fun lab run over the years and might have picked some degrees on the way,” laughs Rain. “But the most important thing for my books is that the science has to be real. No more can-and-know-it-all characters! If I know how to cook meth from baking soda and cough syrup, I won’t be able to start a rocket engine, full stop. Even in fiction!”

Rain is a huge fan of the zombie genre, both in movies and books. “I’d kill to be a zombie extra in a film. Even if they smash my brains out in the first two seconds. Sign me up anytime.”

Dark humour and irony are the main ingredients in Rain’s novels. “I am sure the world will die laughing. That’s what I would do.”

Rain lives in Birmingham (England), which serves as a main inspiration for the goriest post-apocalyptic scenes. In their spare time, Rain plays a harp in the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Nah, not really.

Clairvoyants Book 2

The Fourth Kinetic

Clairvoyants Book 1

In this world, there are four strains of clairvoyants: Kinetics who can move objects with their minds, Prophets who have involuntary visions of the future, Readers who can delve into the innermost thoughts of others in an instant, and Aural who can transfer their consciousness to control the bodies of others.

At just 17 years old, Rion Grean is a Kinetic with no knowledge that he is not alone in his abilities. His protective mother had kept them constantly moving, even going as far as refusing to tell Rion about his father whom he never met. However, when an accident separates them, Rion finds himself being pursued by a covert militaristic force that sees his kind as dangerous anomalies in society. Suddenly thrust into a world filled with different factions of Clairvoyants, Rion must navigate through alliances and betrayals to determine who he can trust.

Despite his natural talents and intelligence, Rion has always struggled to make friends and find purpose in life due to his sheltered upbringing. But as he faces challenges outside of his comfort zone, he learns the true meaning of friendship and family. This is not a typical story of good versus evil; it is a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and the struggle to coexist in a society that fears what it cannot understand.
