June 2024 Free eBooks – 1st to 15th

It was a long time coming, but I finally got some flowers on my patio.  I discovered that Lowe’s Garden Center delivered.  Really?  So I ordered three 8 packs of three different types of flowers.  Sadly, that’s all they had.  What was delivered were three trays of five 8 packs, one for each type of flower.  Yikes!  That was way too many for my limited space.  I’m using planters that I haven’t used for several years.  LOL.  Anyway, my sister said she’d take the leftovers, so now I don’t have to see them perish or throw them away.  Thank you!   

FYI, I was only charged $3.98 for each tray of five eight packs.  Maybe they were trying to get rid of them as the season is almost at the end.  Who knows.

My Book Review of Changing Tide: YA Contemporary Sci-Fi Fantasy by Robert Joncas

My Review:

I found this book through a book tour.  I’d never heard of the author, but the blurb sounded interesting and it had lots of ‘awards’, it was in Kindle Unlimited, so I thought I’d give it a try. 

First off, I really liked the idea of a worm hole being in a conch shell and that’s how travel to our planet was done.  Second, I also liked that toward the end, we go to the Grand Canyon and it ties in with the Hopi Ant People.  

As with other readers, though, I found myself liking and hating the story.  There were times I felt connected to the characters.  I did have a tear in my eye at the end.  However, mostly there was no connection.  There were actions that Skye did I felt most people would’ve questioned.  Or in the case of the ex-girlfriend, why did she believe her?  I sure didn’t. 

And a lot of situations seemed to pat and contrived to advance the storyline.  Like in the cave.  They  had to crawl on hands and knees to get into the cavern, yet, suddenly, there’s all this equipment in there and they leave on an ATV.  Really?  

It can be an entertaining story if you’re not to analytical.  For me, I give it a solid 3 stars.

Her published works includes hundreds of newspaper articles, blog posts across various platforms, anthologies, including MURDERBUGS, the second volume of the Unhelpful Encyclopediam a collection of short stories in WHIRL OF THE FAE, and the first book of the Heart of the Worlds Series, FAERIES DON’T LIE.
 
When not writing or wearing other hats, she can be found with a sword and a dagger in her hands for medieval-style fencing tournaments and melees, something she’s been doing since 2010.
