Author Interview With Joann H. Buchanan

Today, I have Joann Buchanan on my blog.  Hello, and welcome. 

What inspired you to start writing?

I don’t know. I just love to write, I always have.

What’s your favorite book you’ve written and why?

Shine, Book 1 of The H. A. L. O. saga.  I don’t have a real reason as to why. I just love the story. It’s about a young woman’s journey to becoming an angel.

What are the best and worst aspects of writing?

The best is writing the story, developing the worlds and seeing where the characters are going to take you. The worst is marketing. I hate marketing because I don’t know how to answer questions as to why. Do we question why a musician is able to play the piano the way they can? Do we question why some people can sing? What makes people question why writers write? For me it’s just a natural part of who I am. I don’t know why and I don’t know how to give it to someone else because it is something that comes naturally. That’s why I hate marketing. I don’t have a magical formula for those who want to write. Just write. In marketing though, that answer never seems good enough. Lol

How do you balance marketing one book and writing the next?

Divide your time. Look marketing is a necessary part of the creative world. It doesn’t matter what end of the creative field you choose, you will have to market. So if you know you are going to have half an hour of writing time, then make sure you have a half an hour of marketing time as well. That or hire someone to do it for you. Lol.

Are you an Indie Author or are you part of a publishing house?

I have both. I’m part of a publishing house called World Castle Publishing and I have my own indie books out.

What do you enjoy most about being an author?

Writing the story.

Do read books in the genre you write?

Yes and in all other genres.

When you’re not writing, what do you do to recharge?

I read, crochet, do nail art, sleep, and quilt.

Besides being an author, do you have a second job?

Yes. I work at Dollar General. I love working there. I have the best team and I have benefits. I really think I would work there even if I won the lottery. I don’t work there because I have to, I work there because I want to.

What makes you laugh?

Sarcasm.

What (not who) would you take to a lonely island?

A few books. A pad of paper and a pen. Sun screen. A satellite phone and a boat.

Who would you like to invite for dinner?

Anyone who wants to enjoy a good meal and a good conversation.
